Jonny Valiant was born in the UK and grew up in suburban Sydney with lots of trees and paddocks filled with motorbikes and horses. His original career decision to become a panel beater was motivated by the thought of escaping school, but after four years buried in dust and fumes, his decision to travel was motivated by the thought of escaping dust
and fumes.

A whirlwind tour of Asia, culminating in arriving dead broke in London inspired a stint assisting advertising photographers and a new technical love was born.
Jonny assisted both advertising and fashion photographers until four London winters proved enough to drive him to the greener pastures of the US, where just one New York Winter drove him back home to Sydney.

Now based in Bondi Beach, Jonny indulges his 15-year passion for precision still-life photography and his love of interiors with a healthy voyeuristic obsession with exactly
why people put the things in their houses that they do.

Jonny regularly contributes to Australian Vogue, Vogue Living, Vogue Entertaining and Travel, Architectural Digest, Inside Out, Home Beautiful and InStyle and has been published in Wallpaper* and Real Simple as well as shooting for major advertising clients.

If Jonny’s not shooting, planning intricate still-life scenarios, or cooking for friends, he’s enjoying a beer with his wife and new son watching the last waves of the day.
